Bhubaneswar: With India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting that the condition of the sea near Odisha coast will becoming rough in the impact of cyclone ‘Asani’ from May 9, the Indian Coast guard (ICG) has started alerting the fishermen in deep sea near Paradip.
The Odisha PIB, in a tweet, said the Coast Guard units are broadcasting weather warning through Radar Operating Stations in Paradip in view of the possible cyclone brewing over Bay of Bengal.
The Coast Guard has also engaged its Ships and aircraft for broadcasting weather warnings on VHF to fishermen. The ICG units, speaking in Hindi and Odia, are warning the fishermen in deep sea that the sea condition was worsening rapidly and the fishermen should return to the cost immediately.
On Friday, several authorities of the state government as well as IMD had warned the fishermen in coastal areas not to venture into sea and advised those who have already in deep sea to return to the coast.
Earlier in the day, the IMD said the well-marked low-pressure area has concentrated into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal. It lay centered at 11.30 am over the same region about 1300 km south-southeast of Puri, it added.
The Bhubaneswar IMD forecast that the system is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm over eastcentral Bay of Bengal on May 8. The cyclone may attain a maximum wind speed of 100 kmph over the Bay of Bengal on May 9 and 10.
