Bhubaneswar: All the 11 fishermen from Odisha’s Ganjam district who were stranded in Bay of Bengal in the rough sea due to cyclone Asani have been rescued by the Coast Guards.
Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena informed mediapersons that the fishermen were returning from Vishakhapatnam to Ganjam on a boat when they got stranded in sea, about a km from the coast near Sunapur in Ganjam, after their boat developed some trouble. The fishermen belong to Markandi village in Chikiti block.
The SRC office was alerted and they coordinated with the Coast Guard DIG at Paradip following which a rescue operation was immediately launched with the help of a chopper.
The rescued fishermen have been taken to safety, said sources.
