Bhubaneswar: Now that Cyclone Asani has passed, the maximum temperature in Odisha is set to go up once again by 3-4 degrees Celsius in the next few days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said.

Conditions are once again favourable for a gradual rise in day temperature across the state, the IMD said.

Boudh was the hottest place in the state in the last 24 hours recording a maximum temperature of 41.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Sonepur (41.3) and Nuapada (41). Other places in the state recorded day temperatures below 40 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the IMD on Thursday predicted that India will witness normal rainfall during the southwest monsoon season from June 5 to September 30 this year.

The southwest monsoon is likely to advance into South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal around May 15.

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, “We have updated all-India ‘rainfall normal’ to 87 cm for southwest monsoon for 1970-2020 based on data over a long period. There will be a normal monsoon this year in India as across the country there will be 99 pc of rainfall.”
