Cyclone Asani: Gopalpur, Other Beaches In Odisha’s Ganjam District Closed On May 10-11; Check Rain Warning

Berhampur: Gopalpur and other beaches in Odisha’s Ganjam district have been closed to tourists on May 10 and 11 in view of severe cyclonic storm Asani.

The Ganjam Collector issued the order after sea conditions become rough over the Bay of Bengal.

The cyclonic storm has moved closer to the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast, centred about 590 km southwest of Puri and 510 km south-southwest of Gopalpur, moving at 12 kmph in a west-northwest direction, according to the latest update by the Meteorological Centre here.

“It is very likely to move nearly northwestwards till May 10 night and reach westcentral Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh coast and adjoining Odisha coast. Thereafter, it is very likely to recurve north northeastwards and move towards northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts. It is likely to weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours,” it added.

Yellow warning

May 10: Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri districts.

May 11: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack.

May 12: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Balasore.

Wind warning

May 10: Gale wind, speed reaching 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph, is likely to prevail around the system centre over westcentral Bay of Bengal from morning. It will gradually decrease to 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by midnight.

May 11: Gale wind, speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph, is likely to prevail over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal from morning. It will gradually decrease to 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal.

May 12: Squally wind, speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph, is likely to prevail over northwest Bay of Bengal. It will gradually decrease to 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph from noon.

Yellow warning

Squally wind, speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph, is likely along and off Odisha coast on May 11 and 12.
