Bhubaneswar: Cyclonic Storm Burevi, which is likely to cross Sri Lanka coast near Trincomalee by Wednesday night as a cyclonic storm will not have any impact on Odisha, stated a release by the India Meteorological Department.
The system lay centered at 0830 hrs IST of today over southwest Bay of Bengal about 200 km east of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 420 km east-southeast of Pamban (India) and 600 km nearly east-northeast of Kanniyakumari (India).
It is very likely to intensify further during next 12 hours and move west-northwestwards and cross Sri Lanka coast around the north of Trincomalee during the evening or night of December 2 as a Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph.
It is very likely to move nearly west-northwestwards thereafter, emerge into Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin area on the morning of December 3.
It would then move nearly west-southwestwards very close to coast slowly and cross south Tamil Nadu coast between Kanyakumari and Pamban during the night of December 3 and early morning of December 4 as a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph.
However, this will have no impact on Odisha. While dry weather is most likely to prevail over Odisha, shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur at one or two places in the early morning over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar.
