Bhubaneswar: In order to ensure minimum damage to power distribution network due to possible cyclone ‘Dana’, the Odisha government has taken steps to monitor energy grids and emergency transmission towers in the vulnerable districts.
Hemanta Sharma, principal secretary, Energy department said the electricity distribution companies have alerted their engineers to set up control rooms to coordinate in power supply during the cyclone.
Besides, the executive engineers have been told to take necessary steps in Bhadrak, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri and Cuttack districts for urgent restoration works after the cyclone, he added.
“Vulnerable grids and emergency transmission towers in these districts are being mapped. Necessary arrangements will be in place as per the SOP. We will regulate the power supply in these districts depending on the intensity of the cyclone on October 24 and 25,” he said.
“Different groups of workers have been formed to take up the restoration of the damaged transmission towers soon after the cyclone,” he added.
The IMD has forecast the cyclone is likely to make landfall along Odisha and West Bengal coasts on the two days.
