Bhubaneswar: The impact of the impending landfall of Cyclone Fani has started, said the latest weather bulletin on Friday morning.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department’s weather bulletin issued at 7.30 am, the extremely severe cylonic storm ‘Fani’ over northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal moved north-northeastwards lay centred about 110 km southwest of Puri, about 65 km south-east of Gopalpur, about 260 km east north-east of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).
It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross Odisha Coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali, south of Puri during 3rd May forenoon with maximum sustained wind speed of 170-180 kmph gusting to 200 kmph. Sources said the landfall process is very likely to continue till noon/afternoon of 3rd May.
The current wind speed has touched 175 kmph to 185 kmph with gusting up to 195 kmph at certain places, the weather office said.
After the landfall the system is very likely to continue to move north-northeastwards, weaken gradually and emerge into Gangetic West Bengal as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with wind speed of 90-100 Kmph gusting to 115 Kmph by early morning of 4th May. It is very likely to move further north-northeastwards and emerge into Bangladesh on 4th May evening as a Cyclonic Storm with wind speed 60-70 Kmph gusting to 80 Kmph.
Gopalpur has received maximum of 16 cm rainfall in the previous 24 hours, followed by Puri (10cm), Kalibgapatnam (9 cm) and Bhubaneswar (5 cm).
The wind speed has touched 145 kmph in Puri district while at Gopalpur it has been recorded at 85 kmph.
