Bhubaneswar: With the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani inching towards the Odisha coast, the state government on Thursday announced that it will resort to power cuts in coastal districts if the wind speed crosses 50 kmph.
Briefing the media here in the afternoon, commissioner-cum-secretary, Energy, Hemant Sharma, said instructions have been given to all the power grids to disconnect power supply if the wind speed crosses 50 kmph.
“As the wind speed has gradually increased, we will monitor it at 10 pm tonight,” Sharma said, adding that the decision has been taken for the safety of the people as the strong wind is likely to snap high-tension live wires at some places.
