Bhubaneswar: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing ‘yellow warning’ (moderate danger) for Odisha in the wake of the approaching Cyclone ‘Fani’, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday lifted Model Code of Conduct in 11 districts likely to be affected by the cyclonic storm.
The decision was taken to facilitate rescue, relief and restoration operations in Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Cuttack and Jajpur districts.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met the Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora in New Delhi and requested him to withdraw the poll code for all coastal districts to allow the state government handle disaster management effectively.
