Chennai: Cyclone Gaja is slowly moving towards Tamil Nadu and is expected to turn into a severe cyclone in the next 24 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the cyclone, which is currently 740 km from the coast, will reach the coast between Pamban and Cuddalore in the afternoon of November 15.
The IMD has suggested banning fishing operations in north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts between November 13-15.
Over 30,000 rescue personnel have been kept on standby.
