Bhubaneswar: The Deep Depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards with a speed of 13 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 8.30 am on Monday over the same region, about 360 km south of Paradip (Odisha), 510 km south-southwest of Digha (West Bengal) and 660 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) posted on X.

“It is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 6 hours and move nearly north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around evening of October 25 as a Deep Depression,” it added.

If this system intensifies into a cyclone, it will be called Hamoon, a name given by Iran based on the formula followed for naming cyclones in the Indian Ocean Region. The word has multiple Islamic meaning, including forest, desert and wilderness.

The system, however, is likely to be very weak and have a marginal impact on Odisha, bringing in light to moderate rain, and under its influence, light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning is some parts of Bhadrak, jajpur, kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Keonjhar by 3.30 pm, the IMD said while issuing yellow warning for these districts.

People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
