Bhubaneswar: Exercising caution in view of the impending cyclonic storm Jawad, the Fisheries and ARD department has restricted fishing activities along Odisha coast and Chilika lake from December 3 to 5.
A notification in this regard was published by the department on Thursday.
“ Accordingly, in exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (a) of Sub-Section (1) of Section (4) of the Odisha Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1982 (Odisha Act 10 of 1982) and having regard to the matters specified in Sub-Section (2) thereof, the State Government do hereby prohibit fishing within the territorial waters along the entire coastline of Odisha State and Chilika lake by all types of fishing vessels (Mechanized, Motorized and Non Motorized Boats) from 3rd December, 2021 to 5th December, 2021 (both days inclusive)(3-days) for safeguarding life and assets of fishers due to impeding cyclonic storm ‘JAWAD’,” read the notification.
Earlier in the day Director General (DG) of IMD, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the possible cyclonic storm over the southeast Bay of Bengal may change its path and the exact landfall location can be ascertained only after the system concentrates into a depression.
The storm is likely to concentrate into a depression during the next 12 hours and intensify further into cyclonic storm Jawad during the subsequent 24 hours. Thereafter it is likely to move north-northeastwards.
