Cyclone Midhili Crosses Bangladesh Coast Near Khepupara: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Cyclonic storm ‘Midhili’ is crossing Bangladesh coast close to Khepupara with wind speed of 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph. The landfall process is expected to be completed during next 3 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday evening.

“The cyclone over Northwest and adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal moved north-northeastwards with a speed of 25 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 2.30 pm hover Northeast and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal close to Bangladesh coast, 30 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 250 km southwest of Chittagong (Bangladesh). Latest observations indicate that the storm is crossing Bangladesh coast close to Khepupara with wind speed of 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph. Landfall process will be completed during next 3 hours,” the weather agency said.

This is second cyclone to hit Bangladesh coast in less than a month.

While dry weather is likely to prevail across Odisha till November 19, wind speed reaching 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph over North and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal is likely along and off Odisha coast on November 17-18. Distant cautionary signal no-I has been hoisted at all ports of the state, the IMD said.
