Cyclone Midhili To Cross Bangladesh Coast Tonight; Squall@55Kmph Along & Off Odisha Coast

Bhubaneswar: While Bangladesh is bracing for another cyclonic storm in less than a month, there is no warning for Odisha, where dry weather is likely to prevail till November 19.

While cyclonic storm ‘Midhili’ is expected to make landfall during November 17 night, wind speed reaching 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph over North and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal is likely along and off Odisha coast on November 17-18. Distant cautionary signal no-I has been hoisted at all ports of the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to the midday bulletin, light to moderate rain may resume in the state from November 20.

November 20

Light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Rayagada districts

November 21

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely at one or two places in Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Kandhamal.

November 22

Light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur.

CYCLONE UPDATE

The cyclonic storm ‘Midhili’ over Northwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northeastwards with a speed of 26 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 8.30 am over Northwest and adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal, about 250 km east-northeast of Paradip (Odisha), 180 km east-southeast of Digha (West Bengal) and 180 km southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh). It is likely to continue to move north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast close to Khepupara with wind speed of 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph during night of November 17.

Wind warning 

Gale wind speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph is prevailing over North Bay of Bengal. It would become 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph over North Bay of Bengal by this afternoon. It would decrease gradually thereafter becoming 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over North Bay of Bengal from November 17 evening to midnight (during landfall) and decrease thereafter becoming squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph over North Bay of Bengal from November 18 morning. It would decrease further thereafter.

Sea Condition

High sea condition is prevailing over North Bay of Bengal and is likely to continue till midnight of November 17, very rough thereafter till November 18 morning and very rough to rough by afternoon.
