Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has picked up early signs of a cyclone developing in Southeast Bay of Bengal and warned fishermen and the shipping community against venturing into the sea from May 7.
On May 6, squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is very likely over Southeast Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm while moving nearly northwards towards central Bay of Bengal, the MeT office said.

A prediction of its path, intensity and landfall would be made in the next few days. The exact details of the possible cyclone path and intensification will be known after the formation of the low-pressure area. The system is under constant watch, it added.
Upon its intensification into a cyclonic storm, the system will be called Cyclone Mocha, a name suggested by Yemen. It originates from the Yemeni city Mocha (or Mokha) located on the Red Sea coast. Long known for its coffee trade, the port city also gave its name to the famous Mocha coffee.
