Baripada: The Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district will remain closed on Wednesday in view of the approaching Cyclone Montha.

The cyclone, set to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast on Tuesday night as a severe cyclonic storm, is likely to trigger heavy rain in the Mayurbhanj district, prompting the authorities to take precautionary measures.

In view of a yellow warning issued by the National Disaster Management Authority, the STR authorities have decided to keep the reserve shut for the safety of visitors and wildlife.

Sources said the authorities are taking all precautionary measures to prevent any potential risks and untoward incident due to the cyclonic storm.

The STR will reopen and resume normal operations once the weather conditions improve. Tourists have been advised to plan their visits accordingly and check the official website for further updates.
