Kolkata: With Severe Cyclonic Storm Remal expected to make landfall between the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh on Sunday midnight, all fights at Kolkata airport have been suspended from Sunday noon to 9 am on Monday.
A total of 394 flights, arrival and departure, in both international and domestic sectors would not operate to and fro the airport during the flight suspension period, an Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokesperson told PTI.
The Indian Railways has also cancelled many long-distance and suburban trains.
The Eastern Railway has cancelled many trains that link Kolkata with South 24-Parganas and North 24-Parganas. Trains on the Sealdah South section and the Barasat-Hasnabad link on the Sealdah North section have also been suspended from 11 pm on Sunday to 6 am on Monday. Likewise, in Howrah division, more than a dozen trains on the Howrah-Bandel section have been cancelled, the Telegraph reported.
The South Eastern Railway has also cancelled the Kandari Express on Sunday and some MEMU and EMU services to and from Digha on Sunday and Monday, India Today reported.
However, the Digha-Puri Superfast Weekly Train will operate from Kharagpur instead of Digha on Sunday, Zee Business reported.
