Cyclone Senyar To Make Landfall Today, Know Its Possible Impact On India

Chennai: A deep depression over the Strait of Malacca has intensified into cyclonic storm Senyar, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD reports that Senyar is expected to make landfall later today along the Indonesian coast.

Gusty winds of 70–90 km/h are forecast during Wednesday as the system moves westwards.

While schools and c

olleges in parts of Tamil Nadu were shut on Tuesday due to storm-related disruptions, authorities are yet to announce closures for Wednesday.

Persistent rainfall warnings remain in place for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and the Nicobar Islands. The IMD has also said that a low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of south Sri Lanka has turned into a ‘well-marked low-pressure area’. The system is expected to intensify into a depression.

The IMD, in its national bulletin on November 26, said light to moderate rainfall is expected at most places in Nicobar Islands with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on November 26 and November 27. The rain would decrease gradually from November 28 till November 29.
