Cooch Behar: A Kali Puja pandal collapsed here on Monday afternoon after being rocked by strong winds.
Kali Puja is celebrated in a big way across West Bengal as well as some other states on the occasion of Diwali.
Even as Kali, the goddess of ultimate power adorned the mandap, the structure couldn’t withstand the ferocity of winds resulting from Cyclone Sitrang and got dismantled, India Today reported.
There was light rain in Cooch Behar this morning. Though the rain didn’t intensify, the wind got stronger in the afternoon.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said in its latest bulletin that cyclonic storm Sitrang is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in less than 12 hours.
‘Sitrang’ is likely to cross the Bangladesh coast between Tinkona Island and Sandwip past midnight, in the early hours of Tuesday.
