Kendrapada: With the cyclonic storm Yaas set to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm in the next 48 hours, the Kendrapada district administration began evacuation of the people from low-lying areas to cyclone shelters on Monday afternoon.
Arrangements have been made to provide dry and cooked food to the people at cyclone shelters. Apart from this, alternative arrangements have been made for an uninterrupted supply of electricity and drinking water.
For relief and rescue operations, 3 NDRF teams, 15 Fire Service teams and 3 ODRAF teams have been deployed in the vulnerable areas in Rajnagar and Mahakalapada blocks.
Earlier in the day, senior IAS officer Hemant Sharma arrived in the district and held a meeting with the district collector on the cyclone preparedness.
Till reports last came in, moderate rainfall accompanied by squally wind has begun in the district.
