Cyclone Yaas: Know The Wind Speed Forecast For Different Odisha Districts On May 26

Bhubaneswar: Cyclone Yaas is likely to turn ‘very severe’ before crossing north Odisha-West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar Islands on Wednesday (May 26) with a possible wind speed of 185 kmph.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting 60 kmph is very likely to prevail over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal along and off north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha–West Bengal coasts from May 24 afternoon. It will gradually increase, becoming 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph from May 25 forenoon.

It would further increase becoming gale wind speed 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from early hours of May 26 and gradually rise to 90-100 gusting to 110 kmph, thereafter becoming 155-165 kmph gusting to 185 kmph at the time of landfall.

On May 26, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts are likely to experience wind speed of 150-160 kmph gusting to 180 kmph.  Similarly, the wind speed at Mayurbhanj is expected to be 120-130 kmph gusting to 150 kmph.

It will be 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph in Jajpur, Cuttack and Puri districts.

Khurda and Ganjam, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar are likely to experience wind speed of 60 to 70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph.
