Cyclone Yaas: Odisha Govt Bans Use Of Generator Sets

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday prohibited use of generator sets for private purposes from 6 am to 6 pm during electrical restoration works in the aftermath of cyclonic storm Yaas.

The Special relief Commissioner stated in an order that use generator sets for private purposes in the aftermath of cyclone or other disasters sometimes causes back current flow to the supply lines which may endanger the lives of electrical workers engaged in repair and restoration works of electrical system.

Use of generator sets for private purposes is prohibited from 6 am to to 6 pm is prohibited to protect the lives of electrical workers engaged in repair/restoration works of electrical supply lines, he stated in the order.

The SRC also warned that any person violating the order will be liable to be proceeded against in accordance with the provisions of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other relevant laws, warned the order.
