Cyclonic Circulation Over Bay To Trigger Heavy To Very Heavy Rain In Odisha For 4 Days

Bhubaneswar: Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Odisha from June 26-29 under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.

While thunderstorm activity with gusty wind may also continue till June 28, there is a forecast for heavy to very heavy rain in some districts on June 27-28.

According to the weather agency, heavy rain may lash one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Bargarh on June 26. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kalahandi districts.

Bhubaneswar is likely experience partly cloudy sky with possibility of moderate of rain or thundershowers.

On June 27, heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada with heavy to very heavy showers at one or two places in Malkangiri, and Koraput districts. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

On June 28, heavy to very heavy rain may continue in Nabarangpur and Nuapada districts. Heavy rain is also likely to occur in Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Gajapati, and Kandhamal. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph may also prevail in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda.

On June 29, there is also a forecast for heavy rain at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Bargarh.

Light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue at may places in the state during the subsequent 3 days.

According to weather experts, the cyclonic circulation will help bring down the rainfall deficit in the state while strengthening monsoon. Odisha had recorded 42 per cent deficit rains between June 1 and June 26. Puri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Balangir – are in the large deficient category. While 20 other districts received deficit rainfall, only five – Kandhamal, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur and Malkangiri recorded normal rains during the period.
