Cyclonic Circulation Triggers Rainfall In Odisha, Yellow Warning Issued Till March 7

Bhubaneswar: While some parts of the interior North and South Odisha have been experiencing light to moderate showers since Tuesday night, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted widespread rainfall in the state for four days till Saturday.

According to a morning bulletin of the IMD, maximum rainfall was recorded in Balasore at 26 mm followed by Baripada (15), Sundargarh (15), Keonjhar (8.3), Sonepur (7.4), Phulbani (5.2) and Boudh (3.3).

Talking to the media here, duty officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Jivan Baske said there will be light to moderate rain or thundershower at a few places in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Kalahandi districts and at one or two places in the remaining districts on February 4.

He attributed it to a cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh.

Districts of north interior Odisha and Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Boudh and Cuttack, a few places in Balasore, Badhrak, Nayagarh, Khurda, Jajpur, Ganjam and one or two places in the remaining districts are likely to receive rain on February 5.

Rain has been forecast at many places in the districts of North Odisha, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda and a few places in the remaining districts on February 6.

Similarly, several places in north coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and a few places in the remaining districts are likely to receive rain on February 7.

The IMD has also issued yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning in the following districts.

March-4
Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kandhmal, Rayagada, Boudh, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal and Cuttack.

March-5
Kandhamal, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Khurda and Nayagarh and North interior Odisha.

March-6
Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar and Sundargarh.

March-7
Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada and coastal Odisha.

The duty officer further said that the weather in the state will improve thereafter with a gradual rise in the day and night temperature.
