People being rescued from marooned villages by coast guards in Odisha
Bhubaneswar The cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’ weakened into a deep depression and lay centred at 23.30 am on Wednesday over south Jharkhand and adjoining north interior Odisha, about 60 km west-southwest of Jamshedpur and 110 km south south-east of Ranchi.
The system is very likely to move further northwestwards and weaken gradually into a depression during the next 12 hours, the India Meteorological Department said on Thursday.
The Met office has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershower at many places in north interior Odisha, a few places in north coastal Odisha and one or two places in south Odisha. Yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued for isolated places in Sundargarh, Deogarh and Keonjhar.
Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph would prevail over south Jharkhand and adjoining districts of north interior districts of Odisha and West Bengal during next the 6 hours and decrease gradually thereafter, it added.
