Cuttack: Dreaded ‘Dhalasamanta brothers’ and their aide Arif Khan were acquitted by a court in Odisha’s Cuttack in the sensational murder of a wholesale trader.
The court of the district and sessions Judge of Cuttack acquitted Sushant and Sushil Dhalasamanta as well as Arif Khan due to lack of evidence against them.
The police had arrested the two brothers, known as ‘D-brothers’ and alleged sharpshooter Arif Khan in connection with the killing of wholesale pulses trader of Cuttack malgodown Sheikh Farooq.
Earlier, four other accused persons had been acquitted by the court in the sensational murder case for lack of evidence, while another is stated to be still on the run.
It may be noted here that Farooq was shot dead at his shop in malgodown on November 12, 2014. It was alleged that the murder was plotted by D-brothers for extortion and contract killeers were hired to eliminate Farooq.
The trader had reportedly refused to pay extortion money of Rs 30 lakh, sources said.
The police had carried out raids and recovered 19 sophisticated country-made pistols, 24 magazines and 1,095 ammunition of different types, 16 mobile phones and four motorcycles from the house of Dhalasamanta brothers at CDA in Cuttack in December 2020.
