Bhubaneswar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday appointed senior leader from Odisha and MP Baijayant Jay Panda as its in-charge for Maharashtra as part of a fresh round of organisational appointments across states and Union Territories.
Panda, who is BJP’s national national vice president and Lok Sabha member from Kendrapada, has been given the crucial responsibility of politically-important Maharashtra. He will be assisted by Amit Malviya, Sadanand Shet Tanavade, and Kamaljeet Sehrawat as co-in-charges for the state.
Similarly, D Purandeswari has been appointed as the new in-charge for Odisha. She will lead party affairs in the state alongside Swadesh Singh, who has been named as the co-in-charge for Odisha.
Swadesh Singh has been appointed as the co-in-charge of the Odisha unit of the party.
Purandeswari, a senior BJP leader from Andhra Pradesh, had previously served as the party’s in-charge for Odisha, as she was given the appointment in 2020. Her reappointment assumes significance ahead of the panchayat and urban polls in the state.
Purandeswari and Singh have replaced Vijay Pal Singh Tomar and Lata Usendi, respectively, for the posts.
