Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested Joint Commissioner of Excise, Bhubaneswar, Rama Chandra Mishra for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
According to a Vigilance release, the 59-year-old high-ranking excise officer was found in possession of disproportionate assets, including 6 multi-storey buildings, 2 flats in Bhubaneswar & Bargarh, 52 plots, 230 gram of gold, which he could not account for satisfactorily.
During the simultaneous searches, the teams detected 2 plots in Sambalpur, 3 in Balangir and 47 in Sonepur districts. Besides one duplex at Aiginia and one 2 BHK flat at Kharavela Nagar in Bhubaneswar, one 2-BHK flat in Bargarh, two triple-storey buildings in Balangir, a double-storey building at Burla in Sambalpur and two single-storey buildings in Balangir and Sonepur were unearthed during simultaneous search operations.
A non-operational rice mill at Tarbha and a farm house in Sonepur were also found along with bank deposits worth Rs 22 lakh and 317 grams of silver.
The release further stated that Mishra joined the service the rank of Inspector of Excise in 2009. He got promoted as Superintendent of Excise in 2018 and as Deputy Commissioner in 2021. His last promotion was in January 2024 as Joint Commissioner of Excise and he was posted at Directorate Excise, IPICOL Tower, Bhubaneswar.
