New Delhi: The Central government has further hiked Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners by four percentage points effective from January 1, 2024, Union Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Thursday.
Employees’ DA will now be 50% of basic pay, up from existing rate of 46%.
The Central government’s previous DA increment was in October 2023, when it was raised by 4%, elevating it to 46%.
Besides DA hike, transport allowance, canteen allowance and deputation allowance have been increased by 25%.
House Rent Allowance (HRA) has been raised from 27%, 19% and 9% of basic pay to 30%, 20% and 10%, respectively.
Benefits under gratuity have been increased by 25% with an increase ceiling of Rs 25 lakh from the existing Rs 20 lakh.
