Daily COVID Caseload Inches Closer To 9000-Mark In Odisha; Positivity Rate Rises To 11.76%

Bhubaneswar: The daily COVID caseload inched closer to 9000-mark on Wednesday with 8778 people, including 792 in the 0-18 age group, testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

This is the highest single-day spike after almost seven months.

Notably, the state had seen 46.42% spike on Tuesday with 7071 new cases against 4829 and 4717 on Monday and Sunday respectively. 

According to the I & PR Department, 5096 fresh infections are from quarantine and 3682 local contacts. The highest of 2615 cases have been reported from Khurda district, followed by Sundargarh (1252), Cuttack (766), and Sambalpur (596).

Besides, 575 from the state pool.

With these cases being detected from 74,611 samples, the test positivity rate (TPR) jumped to 11.76 per cent from 10.24 per cent the previous day.

Odisha now has 35242 active cases. Khurda and Sundargarh are in the Red Zone with 8434 and 3974 active cases respectively.
