Bhubaneswar: After a consistent drop in COVID caseload for six days, Odisha again witnessed a rise in daily infections on Wednesday with 887 people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
The state had seen 625, 761, 853, 911, 986 and 1041 new cases on Tuesday, Monday, Sunday, Saturday, Friday and Thursday respectively.
Among those infected are 131 in the age group of 0-18 years, which is 15 per cent of the new cases. It was 12.8 per cent with 80 of the total 625 being children and adolescents the previous day.
As many as 1260 in the 0-18 age group have tested positive for COVID since August 15, when the government started mapping the paediatric population in the state, while 30 have died due to the deadly disease during this period.

According to the I & PR department, 515 of the new case are from quarantine and 372 local contacts. Khurda (323) and Cuttack (119) – accounted for almost 50 per cent of these new infections. Balangir and Sonepur reported nill cases.

Besides, 69 are from the state pool.
With these new infections detected from 68,717 samples, the test positivity rate (TPR) stood at 1.29 per cent.
Odisha now has 8226 active cases. Khurda continues to be in the red zone with 2877 active cases. The remaining districts are in the green zone with less than 1000 active cases.
