Bhubaneswar: Odisha witnessed a rise in daily COVID infections for the fourth consecutive day on Friday as 1193 more people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
After a day’s dip of 886 on August 9, the daily caseload rose to 1041 on August 10 while another 1078 were found infected the day after. On Thursday, 1107 more COVID cases were detected.
The test positivity rate, however, dropped to 1.67 per cent from 1.70 per cent the previous day with the new infections being detected from 71,197 samples sent for tests.
According to the I & PR department, 695 among them were from quarantine and 498 local contacts.
Khurda at 425 accounted for 1/3 of the new COVID cases detected in the last 24 hours followed by Cuttack (161) and Balasore (69). Sonepur and Kalahandi reported nil cases.
