Bhubasneswar: After remaining below 200 for three consecutive days, the daily COVID-19 cases in the capital city shot up to 229 in the last 24 hours.
The city had reported 170 positive cases on Wednesday, 197 on Tuesday and 168 on Monday. On Sunday, 237 patients were reported while their figure on Saturday was 275.
The fresh cases included 44 from quarantine and 185 local contacts, according to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Among the local contacts, maximum 11 cases were reported from Patia, followed by 10 cases each from Khandagiri, Old Town and Nayapalli.
While 261 patients have recovered from the disease during the period, the number of deceased has gone up to 990 with one more death reported in the last 24 hours.
The city now has 3,357 active cases while the affected tally has touched 10,6,079, the BMC added.
