Bhubaneswar: A day after reporting a five-fold increase in COVID cases, the daily count dropped to single-digit in Odisha on Monday with eight persons testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
The state had witnessed a huge spike of 71 new infections with 64 being reported from two hostels in Rayagada alone, the highest on a single day in about two months.

According to the I & PR department, five of the eight new cases are from quarantine and three local contacts. Two among them are in the age group of 0-18 years.
Here are the district-wise figures of the new cases:
1. Balangir: 1
2. Kandhamal: 1
3. Khurda: 3
4. Mayurbhanj: 1
5. Nuapada: 1
Besides, 1 from the state pool.
With these cases being detected from 14,599 samples, the test positivity rate stood at 0.05 per cent.
With eight new cases and seven recoveries in the last 24 hours, Odish now has 161 active cases.
