Bhubaneswar: After a gap of one day, the daily COVID caseload in Odisha crossed the 50-mark again on Friday with 55 people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
The state has been witnessing a fluctuating trend for the past few days. It had reported 38 cases on Thursday after a spike of 87 per cent in new cases on Wednesday when the number shot up to 60 from 32 on Tuesday. A total of 40 and 45 infections were reported on Monday and Sunday.
According to the I & PR department, 32 of the new cases are from quarantine and 23 local contacts. Among them, 10 are in the age group of 0-18 years. Sundargarh reported the highest 8 fresh infections

3. Cuttack: 4
4. Deogarh: 1
5. Gajapati: 6
6. Ganjam: 2
7. Jajpur: 5
8. Khurda: 6
9. Koraput: 1
10. Mayurbhanj: 2
11. Nayagarh: 1
12. Sambalpur: 6
13. Sundargarh: 8
Besides, 1 from the state.
With these cases being detected from 52,563 samples, the test positivity rate stood at 0.10 per cent.
Odisha now has 458 active cases with Puri and Kalahandi having been freed of COVID.
