Dalit Groom Dragged Off Horse, Beaten In Madhya Pradesh Village

Bhopal: A 23-year-old Dalit groom was allegedly dragged off a horse and beaten during a pre-wedding procession in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district.

The incident took place on Tuesday during the “Rachwai” ritual, a customary pre-wedding procession, when Golu Ahirwar was riding through his village with family members, reported NDTV. Local men allegedly ob

jected to him riding a horse and stopped the procession.

The groom alleged that some men pulled him down and assaulted him with sticks and clubs. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Family members claimed the attackers told them that “people like you” could not take out such a procession. Golu’s sister Manisha Ahirwar said they had blocked the lane with a vehicle before attacking the wedding party. The groom’s mother also alleged that some gold jewellery went missing during the chaos.

Police said a case has been registered under relevant sections, including the SC/ST Act, and an investigation is underway. Additional forces were deployed in the village to prevent tension and ensure the wedding rituals could continue.
