Bhubaneswar: Nearly two and half months after his expulsion from the BJD, Damodar Rout formally announced the formation of a new political party, Biju Samatakranti Dal, at a press meet here on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dama said the new party will fight against the gross misrule and corruption of the BJD government.
“The objective of the new regional party will be to strongly oppose the ruling party which has deviated from the ideals of the legendary leader Biju Patnaik,” Dama said.
Among others, former BJD leaders Jagneswar Babu and Braja Kishore Tripathy were present.
While Dama announced Tripathy as the chairman of the party, the latter said that since Rout is not interested in holding any post, he will work as the chairman of the party’s campaign committee.
The veteran leader had earlier put the BJD on the back foot by raising a series of scams, including the Dankari hill loot in Jajpur district, sapling plantation in Mayurbhanj district, supply of polythene to Omfed, bungling in Cooperative Bank, Black Rose and Ramco Cement Factory, before the media.
