Ludhiana: The main accused in Thursday’s Ludhiana court blast case is believed to have carried explosives inside the court complex and assembled the bomb in a washroom.
Punjab Police chief Siddharth Chattopadhyaya on Saturday confirmed media reports that the man killed in the blast was, indeed, a former policeman and caused the explosion.
Sharing findings from the preliminary probe into the case with mediapersons, the DGP said that the man in question was dismissed former cop Gagandeep Singh who most probably colluded with some pro-Khalistan people.
“Gagandeep most probably met some people, including Khalistani elements and drug smugglers, while he was jailed. He had very good technical skills and initial inquiry reveals that he went inside the washroom to assemble the bomb,” Chattopadhyaya said.
“We have strong leads that Pakistan-based, pro-Khalistani narco-terrorists are behind the blast,” he added.
Gagandeep was dismissed from the police force in 2019 for his alleged involvement in a drugs case. He spent two years in jail before being released in September 2021.
According to the police chief, Gagandeep’s hearing in the drugs case was scheduled a day later, that is, on December 24, and most possibly tried to create fear before that.
