Lucknow: A college principal was shot at multiple times by a Class XII student in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district on Saturday.
The condition of Ram Singh Verma, of Adarsh Ram Swaroop Inter College in Jahangirabad town, is critical.
He suffered multiple bullet injuries after being shot at thrice by the boy.
According to the police, a student by the name of named Gurvinder Singh had an argument with a fellow-student over seating arrangement in the class on Friday. The two clashed with each other and were summoned by the principal.
Gurvinder was scolded by the principal, The New Indian Express reported.
On Saturday morning, Ram Singh was taking stock of some upcoming shops outside the college when Gurvinder fired at him. The student was reportedly reloading the gun to fire again when college staff thwarted him.
Ram Singh, who suffered serious injuries on his head and abdomen, was quickly rushed to the local Community Health Centre and later shifted to Sitapur District hospital. He was then referred to Lucknow Trauma Centre.
Gurvinder’s family, who said that the boy was angry for being chided by the principal, said they have no idea how he got hold of the gun.
Gurvinder is on the run.
