Bhubaneswar: Even as cases of snatching of valuables from women have become a regular affair in the city, an auto-rickshaw driver was able to nab one such miscreant in a rare show of courage and presence of mind.
According to sources, auto-rickshaw driver Srikant Sahu of Old Town picked up a woman, her old father and a child from Tomando to go to Sanik School. While they were on the way, two persons came on a bike and snatched the purse of the woman, who was sitting on one side of the seat.
As the snatchers started to flee with the purse, Srikant gave a chase to them. He overtook them and stopped his vehicle in front of their bike. While one of the snatchers managed to escape, the auto-rickshaw driver caught hold of the other one and called the police. A PCR van reached the spot and took the miscreant into custody.
Police Commissioner S Priyadarshi felicitated Srikant with cash reward for his bravery and helpful attitude in the city.
