Agartala: Three men have been arrested on the charge of attempting to murder Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
Police said on Saturday that the trio broke the CM’s security cordon and drove a car through it when Deb was out on an evening walk near his residence on Thursday, PTI reported.
The CM just about managed to jump aside as the vehicle whizzed past him. One of his security personnel, however, sustained minor injuries, informed police.
Security personnel tried to intercept the car but the trio managed to escape. They were later arrested and the vehicle seized. The three men were produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate and remanded to 14 days in jail.
According to assistant public prosecutor Bidyut Sutradhar, the motive of the three men, all in their mid-20s, is yet to be ascertained.
“We demanded two days of police remand for interrogation, but court has remanded them to judicial custody till August 19. Police will interrogate them in jail to find out their motive behind driving through the security cordon of the chief minister,” PTI quoted Sutradhar as saying.
