Bhawanipatna: In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kalahandi district administration on Saturday clamped prohibitory order around the Budharaja temple at Ampani ghat near the border with Nabarangpur district to avoid large congregation of devotees during Dashara Yatra.

The prohibitory order under Section 144 was enforced at 6 am on Saturday and will remain in force till 10 am on Sunday.

Thousands of devotees throng the temple to witness the Dasara Yatra of Lord Budharaja, who is the Parsva Devata (side deity) of Goddess Manikeswari, which is held on the first Saturday after Kumara Purnima.

The district administration has asked the temple management to perform the ritual by allowing a maximum of 50 persons this year.
