Bhubaneswar: In a heartening news on Daughter’s Day today, here is story of a young girl who saved her father from the brink of death in Kalahandi district.

When 47-year-old Sunil Garg, a businessman of Ladugaon under Kokasara block, fell ill six months back, he got alarmed as he had undergone bypass surgery of his heart at Narayana Hospital in Bengaluru before that.

Apprehending that he was again having cardiac problem, his wife Sunita consulted her brother who is a doctor. On the advice of her brother, Sunil’s family took him to Apollo Hospital in Chennai for consultation.

After all necessary tests and check-ups, the doctors said both the kidneys of Sunil had been damaged and he needed transplantation to survive. For second opinion, Sunil’s family consulted the experts of Medant Hospital in New Delhi. They also advised for transplantation. Since it was almost impossible to arrange kidney from outside, any of his family members can donate to save his life, the doctors said.

Sunita offered to donate her kidney, but unfortunately her blood group did not match with that of her husband. To make the matter worse, none of their family members’ blood had the same blood group.

While Sunil’s family and relatives had almost given up hope, Sunil’s 22-year-old daughter Saloni wanted to donate her kidney. But the family members did not agree to it as she is too young. They apprehended that the operation may affect her life.

As Saloni stuck to her ground and pleaded with her mother to allow her to save her father, Sunita again consulted her brother. He convinced them that any person can lead a normal life with one kidney and will not face any kind of physical problems.

Finally, Saloni donated her kidney and Sunil underwent transplantation at Medant Hospital on September 8. He has recovered from the operation and will be discharged from the hospital soon.

“I had almost lost hope on my life after my wife’s blood group did not match with mine. It was very painful. I cannot express in words how I feel after what she has done for me,” said Sunil.

For Saloni, it was not at all anything to be proud of. “Far from sacrifice, I am happy that I could do my responsibility towards my father. I feel lucky that my parents are with me. Nothing can be more satisfying than than that,” she said.
