Gajapati: A dawn-to-dusk shutdown called by the regional development council paralyzed life at Mohana block in Gajapati district on Wednesday.
The agitators, who were demanding revenue sub-division status for Mohana block, picketed at several places. They also staged blockades at Luhagadi, Chandragiri and Adaba-Mohana roads by burning tyres.
In response to the bandh, most shops, markets, commercial establishments and educational institutions remained shut. The town wore a deserted look as vehicles including buses, trucks and auto-rickshaws stayed off the road.
“The district administration must immediately fulfil our demand in the greater interest of the residents of Mohana block. We will intensify the stir if the demand is not met,” said an agitator.
Adequate numbers of police personnel were deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
