Sambalpur: Locals of Sambalpur have called a dawn-to-dusk bandh on April 2 demanding total suspension of tax collection at Nuakhurigan toll plaza on the Sambalpur-Rourkela Biju Expressway.
“All educational institutions, essential services like hospitals, ambulance service and movement of milk will be exempted from the purview of the strike”, informed National Highway Users’ Association convenor Satyanarayan Panda.
Stating that collection of tax on Biju Expressway is unethical, Panda said people have been paying road tax for the expressway formerly known as National Highway 10 for over one-and-a-half decade and it would be a burden for them to pay more taxes.
Two days ago, the members of Sambalpur District Highway Users’ Forum had taken out a bike rally to protest against the collection of toll from vehicles of the district at Pradhanpali toll plaza on Biju Expressway.
Members of Sambalpur Bar Association, Truck Owners’ Association, Building Material Transporters’ Association, Mini Truck Owners’ Association and locals took part in the rally that started from Sameleswari temple and concluded at Rengali.
