Dawn-to-dusk Shutdown Cripples Life In Komna

Nuapada: Normal life was affected in Komna block of Odisha’s Nuapada district
due to a dawn-to-dusk bandh called by Garib Sena, a local outfit,
seeking fulfilment of their 18-point charter of demands.

Most commercial establishments, educational institutions and offices
remained closed while vehicles stayed off the road in response to the
strike. The protestors staged demonstrations and road blockades on
major roads including National Highway-353.

“The state government immediately should declare Nuapada as a
drought-hit district and provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to
the kin of 20 farmers who ended their lives in the last three years
owing to crop loss. We will intensify our protest in the days to come,
if the government failed to address our issues at the earliest”, an
agitator said.
