Rayagada: Vehicular traffic was disrupted while business establishments remained closed following a dawn-to-dusk shutdown over demand for sub-division status to Bisamcuttack block in Rayagada district on Friday.
The protestors staged blockades at different places by burning tyres, hampering vehicular movement on Muniguda-Rayagada road.
“We have been urging the state government for sub-division status to Bisamcuttack block and establishment of a sub-judge court in the region since long. But one one has paid any heed to our legitimate demands. We will intensify the stir, if the demands are not met at the earliest,” an agitator said.
The shutdown was called by the Nagarika Mancha and Lawyers’ Association.
Adequate police forces were deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
