Mumbai: Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar’s six properties in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri were auctioned here on Tuesday for nearly Rs 23 lakh under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA).
Lawyer Ajay Shrivastava and Supreme Court advocate Bhupendra Bhardwaj were among the successful bidders in the scheduled online, offline and sealed tender auction held here.
According to an IANS report, the auctioned properties included mostly small constructions, among which some were in really bad shape on plots of land, situated in Mumbake village of Ratnagiri’s sub-district Khed.
The Kaskar family hailed from this place. The 13 seized properties of Dawood were to be auctioned by the competent authority under SAFEMA early this year.
However, the auction had to be postponed because of the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Besides Dawood’s properties, two flats belonging to the don’s former aide Iqbal Memon alias Iqbal Mirchi are also being auctioned.
