Bhubaneswar: Jharsuguda at 40.8 degree Celsius was the hottest place in Odisha at 2.30 pm on Tuesday followed by Sambalpur (40.6) and Bhubaneswar (40.4), the regional meteorological centre here tweeted.
The other places which recorded 35 degree Celsius and more are Hirakud (39.1), Chandbali (38.4), Balasore and Keonjhar at 37.4 degree Celsius each.
The mercury had soared to 39 degree Celsius in Odisha capital by 11 this morning. Six other places recorded 35 degree Celsius or more- Sambalpur (38), Jharsuguda (37.6), Chandbali (36.8), Hirakud (36.2) and Keonjhar (35.4) before noon.
The IMD has forecast a significantly higher number of heatwave days in Odisha and issued yellow warning for three days from April 13.
The maximum temperature in the state crossed the 40-degree Celsius mark for the first time this year, the previous day. Jharsuguda sizzled at the day’s highest of 40.4 degree Celsius followed by Baripada at 40 degree Celsius. The mercury touched 39 degree Celsius and more at 12 places in the state.
