Bhubaneswar: Odisha continues to reel under heatwave and hot and humid conditions amid the slow progress of southwest monsoon into the state despite its onset on June 8.
The India Meteorological department (IMD) on Friday, however, said that conditions have become favourable for further advance of monsoon into some more parts of the state during the next 4-5 days.
This prediction has come amid joyous celebration of Raja Parba to welcome the rains.
The weather agency has also forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts on June 17, and Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak on June 18.
Heatwave may persist at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore on June 14. Hot & humid weather is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts till June 17.
There is also a warning of thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph for several districts of the state till June 17.
The MeT office has also predicted a fall in the day temperature by 2-4 degree Celsius at many places after 3-4 days.
